We get asked this all the time. The answer in short, everywhere. Thrift stores, little out of the way antique shops, estate sales, garage sales, auctions, friends, family and even clients! Mr Felonious always says “I turn left when everybody else turns right” and taught me to always take the back roads. You never know what you’ll find!
Sometimes I can go into a dozen thrift shops and find nothing, but the next day I can hit one of them again and score a recent drop off of amazing finds! And don’t forget to keep an eye out while traveling! You never know what hidden gems you’ll find. From The Antique Center in La Crosse to La France in Ybor City in Tampa, there’s amazing shops out there to be explored.
Are you like me and 95% of vintage clothing will barely fit one thigh? While it’s more scarce, here are some tips when searching for plus size vintage. Search Etsy, eBay, Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace and any other platform with the words ‘volup vintage’. Volup is the term used during the mid century to describe plus size clothing and many sellers use this term exclusively. There are numerous Facebook groups such as Vintage Clothing & Accessories (although it has been a lot of 80s lately), Ooh La La has several groups divided by eras, and Hilda’s Haven are great.
